Back and Neck Pain Treatment Options
We aim to provide our patients with a comprehensive pain management program that includes medications, physiotherapy, and in some cases, interventional pain procedures using the most advanced and latest treatments. The goals are to help our patients reduce pain, have better function, and improve the quality of their lives in both the short and long term. To do this, we provide a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to managing pain. Additionally, we offer our patients clinical psychologist services who can help patients with pain coping and pain behavior modifications.
At The Orthopaedic and Pain Practice, we provide our patients with a comprehensive pain management program that includes the use of medications, physiotherapy, and in some cases, interventional pain procedures. We also use the most advanced and latest pain treatments like radiofrequency neurotomies and platelet-rich plasma injections. Our goal is to help our patients with acute and chronic pain conditions to reduce their pain and improve their quality of life. With pain relief, patients are able to do their daily activities better and are able to start a rehabilitation program to strengthen their body structure that may have been weakened by the pain. This will help reduce the risk of recurring pain in the future. Due to our commitment to providing high-quality service, we have established ourselves as one of the leading pain practices in Singapore.
Back and neck pain are the most common complaints among patients in both orthopaedic and pain practice. In most cases, the pain is due to musculoskeletal problems. These can usually be treated with rest, medications, physiotherapy, and in some cases, orthopaedic interventions. We use the most appropriate and up-to-date treatments for patients with back and neck pain, which include minimally invasive spine surgery and regenerative medicine treatments. No two pain conditions are the same, and similarly, no two pain patients are the same. We offer a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to managing pain. Other than making use of the latest medications and the most advanced interventional pain techniques, we also have a clinical psychologist on our team who can help patients with pain coping and pain behavior modifications.
Neck Pain Treatment Medications
Our doctor may prescribe neck pain treatment medicine to help alleviate the discomfort. Pain medications are a common way to treat neck pain. While generally effective, you may face side effects with any of these medications. Over-the-counter choices include acetaminophen and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen and naproxen. Your doctor may suggest a prescription NSAID if your pain doesn’t improve with OTC versions. Muscle relaxants are another option, particularly in the short term for severe neck pain; these drugs can cause dizziness and drowsiness. Low doses of tricyclic antidepressants are sometimes prescribed for chronic neck pain and may also help you sleep better. Additionally, anticonvulsant medications can be used to help control nerve pain in the neck.
Invasive Procedures for Musculoskeletal Conditions
When invasive interventional procedures are indicated, Dr. Yong Ren will be able to help you assess the suitability of various procedures for your condition. Some of the more commonly performed injections are listed here. Do talk to Dr. Yong if you have other conditions for which you’re considering an injection but do not see it on the list below.
At The Orthopaedic and Pain Practice, Dr. Yong’s main approach with his patients is to restore their function and relieve their pain with the least invasive methods. Often, minimally invasive or non-invasive methods such as physiotherapy, medications, and/or orthotics are employed upfront. In situations when more definitive treatment is needed, there are several types of injections that Dr. Yong can perform to help treat your condition or to help with the diagnosis of the cause of your symptoms. Furthermore, we are able to give you the option of doing some of the injections under image guidance (ultrasound or X-ray) to increase the accuracy of the injection and hence the likelihood of a good outcome.
Addressing Poor Posture-Related Neck Pain
Corrective exercises are essential for poor posture neck pain treatment. Neck pain is often the result of poor posture. It can affect the top of the shoulders, arms, and the hands. Pain may also radiate from the neck to the arm or the hand. At The Orthopaedic and Pain Practice in Singapore, our orthopaedic doctors have extensive experience in diagnosing and managing neck pain. We aim to alleviate pain and improve function, allowing you to get back to your daily activities as soon as possible.
